Were = หรือไม่ (คำกริยาช่วย) ! they = พวกเขา ! busy = ยุ่ง !

Did = หรือไม่ (คำกริยาช่วย) ! you = ึคุณ ! understand = เข้าใจ !

พวกเขายุ่งหรือไม่เมื่อวานนี้ = Were they busy yesterday?

แม้ในภาษาไทยจะใช้คำเดียวกันสำหรับคำที่เป็นคำถามเพื่อสร้างรูปประโยคคำถาม แต่ในภาษาอังกฤษถ้าหากว่าไม่มีคำกริยาแท้อยู่ในประโยคที่เป็นประโยคคำถาม past simple tense เราจะใช้ 'was/were' ขึ้นต้นประโยคคำถาม
He/She - Was
They/we - Were

คุณดูทีวีเมื่อคืนนี้หรือไม่ = Did you watch TV last night?

ถ้าหากว่ามีคำกริยาแท้อยู่ในประโยคที่เป็นประโยคคำถาม past simple tense เราจะใช้ 'did' กับคำกริยาแท้ที่ไม่เปลี่ยนรูป
